Sometimes You Need Someone To Stand Up For You

MEET MY STAFF

JOHN SPETALNICK

Born in New York, my parents moved to Atlanta when I was 6 (I had no say in the matter, and my Mom sold my sled). I grew up around the corner from Northside Hospital in Sandy Springs and watched from the playground as they built GA Hwy 400. As a teenager I had a sign on my bedroom door "Divorce Lawyer/Marriage Counselor 25¢"; my fees are a bit higher now.

After graduating from Ridgeview High School in '77, I spent 4 years at The Ohio State University where I majored in Accounting and Finance. I attended The University of Georgia School of Law, and on the very 1st day when classmates spoke of careers with large firms in Atlanta or saving the whales, I announced my intent to be a Divorce Lawyer. My law school thesis was titled "The Tax Ramifications of Divorce – Is Public Policy Being Served", and I'm still convinced the answer is "No".

I went on to be licensed in both Georgia and Florida, as an Attorney and a CPA, and after 2 years handling Estate Planning matters I spent 4 years as an associate with Stern & Edlin, a Buckhead family law practice. By '94 I elected to become a sole practitioner. I don't need the glitter of a high rise office, a prestigious address or partners and staff to create an aura of success. I enjoy an office where I can listen to my music, with a news channel or documentary playing on the television on the wall, wearing blue jeans or khaki's when I'm not in court, and working with people with real problems.

LISA PEVERILL

Lisa Peverill grew up in Independence, Missouri attending Harry S Truman High School, and actually watching the former President play "Hide and Seek" with the Secret Service, dodging them during his daily walks in the neighborhood.  She attended Drake University, receiving a B.A. in Psychology and a Minor in Religion. She then attended law school at Drake as a 1st Year Student.  Upon relocating to Atlanta, Lisa earned a Litigation Certificate at the National Center for Paralegal Training. Prior to joining my practice, Lisa handled Personal Injury and Wrongful Death cases as well as other tort litigation for Plaintiffs’ and Defendants’, and was involved in several high-profile cases throughout the Southeast.  Although Lisa loves her work in Family Law, occasionally she looks like she might actually hurt me or bite the head off a live rattlesnake. She really appreciates the opportunity to help clients deal with critical personal issues.
