Meet The Attorney

JON P SPETALNICK Jon Profile Image

To know how I intend to work with you, you need to know who I am.  As a 10 year old I wanted to be an NFL Quarterback, a Fighter Pilot or a Divorce Lawyer.  I had a sign on my bedroom door, from a novelty store, that read Marriage Counselor/Divorce Lawyer 25 Cents.  My fees have increased, but I did follow my dream.  On the first day of Law School when all the new law school students were talking about their future careers as corporate lawyers, saving the whales or working for prestigious law firms in downtown Atlanta, I was pretty vocal about being a Divorce Attorney.

I grew up in Sandy Springs, Georgia, a block from Northside Hospital and watched from my elementary school playground as they built GaHwy 400.  After attending Ridgeview High School I went to Ohio State University and majored in Accounting and Finance.  I attended law school at the University Of Georgia School of Law and graduated in 1987.  While at UGA I enrolled in any class, seminar, activity or training available, that had anything to do with family law.  My thesis argued the Public Policy Concerns and Possibilities associated with the deductibility of Child Support rather than Alimony.  I realized early on that family law cases were becoming more complex and full of financial issues.  In my final year of law school I studied for both the Georgia Bar Exam and the CPA Examination.  By 1989, having a license to practice law in both Georgia and Florida, as well as my CPA License, I joined the Buckhead Family Law Firm of Stern and Edlin, as an associate, and for 4 years was fully immersed in Family Law litigation.  By the 1994 I elected to go out on my own as a sole practitioner.

Every day I use my skill set, personality traits, and education to stand up for what I know is right.  Every day, I battle for people in real crisis.  Every day I have a very real impact on the lives of my clients and their families.  I’m detail oriented and driven to get results.   I’m not passive, and not inclined to wait and let things just happen; so don’t be surprised that I won’t wait around while my client is bullied by a spouse.  I have the experience, knowledge and mindset to use the legal system to work for my client and to get the intended result.

Some of the things that set me apart from other family law attorney’s is that I’m going to represent people because I support their cause.  I’m pretty certain I can identify a wrong; and I’m the guy that sees a wrong and wants to right it.  I’m going to stand up for my client and say this is not going to happen any longer.  I was destined to be a Family Law Attorney.  This isn’t just what I do, it’s truly who I am.

You Should Meet My Staff

LISA PEVERILL

Lisa Peverill grew up in Independence, Missouri graduating from Harry S Truman High School. She was actually a neighbor of his; and watched Harry play hide and Seek with the Secret Service, dodging them during his daily walks. Lisa attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, receiving a B.A. in Psychology with a Minor in Religion. She entered a special program at Drake, completing her first year of law school as an undergraduate. Upon moving to Atlanta, Lisa earned her Litigation Certificate at the National Center for Paralegal Training, the only ABA Approved Paralegal Certification Program in the country. In her 20+ years as a Paralegal, prior to joining me, Lisa handled Personal Injury and Wrongful Death cases as well as other tort litigation for both the Plaintiffs’ and Defendants’, and has been involved in several high-profile cases throughout the Southeast. Having originally intended to become a Child Advocacy Attorney, Lisa loves her work in Family Law, although on occasion she looks like she might hurt me or bite the head off a live rattlesnake. She enjoys the challenges that a Family Law practice deals with daily and appreciates the opportunity to help the firm’s clients in these critical personal issues.

VONDA BENTON

Vonda has been with me since December of 1995.  She moved to Atlanta from Kinston, NC to attend Spelman College. She considers herself a true “Georgia Peach.” She is married to a great guy and has one handsome son, EJ.  Her dedication to her family and me is self evident. She is professional, trustworthy, helpful and a pleasure to work with, although I would prefer that when you talk to her on the telephone that you note she will talk all day. She gets teased a lot about having the telephone glued to her ear, her family says it's her true passion.  She is a great asset to our continued success.  Vonda loves to travel, cook and spend time with family and friends. I should reiterate that she loves to cook, and that her Roast Beef is extraordinary. But when it comes to dependability, consistency and overall effectiveness, you will not find anyone more willing to solve a problem than Vonda.  She is going to work closely with you to gather the documents and other evidence we are going to use to put together our Domestic Relations Financial Affidavit.  She is going to make certain that everything is organized and that we have things done on time. She also keeps me in line by making certain I eat healthy and drink plenty of water.
