Meet The Attorney
JON P SPETALNICK
To know how I intend to work with you, you need to know who I am. As a 10 year old I wanted to be an NFL Quarterback, a Fighter Pilot or a Divorce Lawyer. I had a sign on my bedroom door, from a novelty store, that read Marriage Counselor/Divorce Lawyer 25 Cents. My fees have increased, but I did follow my dream. On the first day of Law School when all the new law school students were talking about their future careers as corporate lawyers, saving the whales or working for prestigious law firms in downtown Atlanta, I was pretty vocal about being a Divorce Attorney.
I grew up in Sandy Springs, Georgia, a block from Northside Hospital and watched from my elementary school playground as they built GaHwy 400. After attending Ridgeview High School I went to Ohio State University and majored in Accounting and Finance. I attended law school at the University Of Georgia School of Law and graduated in 1987. While at UGA I enrolled in any class, seminar, activity or training available, that had anything to do with family law. My thesis argued the Public Policy Concerns and Possibilities associated with the deductibility of Child Support rather than Alimony. I realized early on that family law cases were becoming more complex and full of financial issues. In my final year of law school I studied for both the Georgia Bar Exam and the CPA Examination. By 1989, having a license to practice law in both Georgia and Florida, as well as my CPA License, I joined the Buckhead Family Law Firm of Stern and Edlin, as an associate, and for 4 years was fully immersed in Family Law litigation. By the 1994 I elected to go out on my own as a sole practitioner.
Every day I use my skill set, personality traits, and education to stand up for what I know is right. Every day, I battle for people in real crisis. Every day I have a very real impact on the lives of my clients and their families. I’m detail oriented and driven to get results. I’m not passive, and not inclined to wait and let things just happen; so don’t be surprised that I won’t wait around while my client is bullied by a spouse. I have the experience, knowledge and mindset to use the legal system to work for my client and to get the intended result.
Some of the things that set me apart from other family law attorney’s is that I’m going to represent people because I support their cause. I’m pretty certain I can identify a wrong; and I’m the guy that sees a wrong and wants to right it. I’m going to stand up for my client and say this is not going to happen any longer. I was destined to be a Family Law Attorney. This isn’t just what I do, it’s truly who I am.
